Costa del Sol Towns

Notable towns on the Costa del Sol

Malaga - Malaga is a large city located to the east of the Costa del Sol. Malaga has a large airport which is where the vast majority of visitors to the Costa del Sol will touch down. Malaga also hosts the popular Spanish football team, who had their most successful season to date (2013).
A wealth of nightclubs and bars / restaurants will be found in Malaga however it is not the most popular resort for holiday makers with most looking more to the West.

Fuengirola - Very coastal in location and much smaller than Malaga, Fuengirola is a very popular resort for English and Scandinavian holiday makers. Its is well priced, and mostly filled with apartment complexes and hotels.

Marbella - Probably the best know location on the Costa del Sol. A very social scene with a lot of wealth and celebrity visitors to attract a lot of tourism. Marbella also has prestigious restaurants and property complex, with Puerto Banus just a couple of minuets away.

Estepona - More Spanish then most of the Costa del Sol, Estepona has enjoyed a large amount of investment and it has paid off with fantastic new clean beaches and attractions. A large stretch of beach bars and is a must visit location.

Duquesa/Manilva
Here we discover 3 distinct areas:  Manilva, Sabinillas and la Duquesa.  These are aside from the various tourist urbanizations;  Manilva has a wealth of history which dates back to Roman times and still today there are some well-preserved Roman archaeological sites in the area.

The village of Manilva is almost 100km to the west of Malaga Airport and 45km from Marbella.  Its setting is breath taking, backed by the wonderful Sierra Bermeja mountains, and with open views to Gibraltar and across the sea to Africa.  It is also just over an hours drive to Jerez Airport, from where many budget airlines operate frequent cheap flights to and from the UK.
Next to Manilva is an area called Casares.  There is a huge amount of investment currently going into this area, including a 6 star Hilton hotel, several championship status golf courses, and many sports and leisure facilities with the aim of making this area the La Manga of the Costa del Sol.  The village of Casares is a 15 minute drive inland up into the hills.  According to tradition, Julius Caesar ordered it built in gratitude for being cured bathing in the Hedionda Baths here.  In 1978, Casares was declared an Artistic and Historic Village, and currently is considered one of the most beautiful pueblos in Spain, with stunning views out to sea.

On the coast you will find La Duquesa port, a beautiful and busy area surrounded by shops, cafes and restaurants.  La Duquesa has become one of the busiest and sought after areas on the coast recently with many developers offer up to 100% finance on sales of new apartments, along with the reduced buying costs on new properties.

Sotogrande - Most westerly on this list, Sotogrande homes a very nice port and new homes. Its quiet and tranquil and close to Gibraltar, an English colonial island.
